Shmuel Breban

Today I am interviewing Shmuel Breban, a comedian born in Cedarhurst, NY who has been doing comedy for six years. To find out more about Shmuel, please visit his website.

Why did you start doing stand-up comedy?

It had nothing to do with my parents’ divorce which occurred at approximately the same time. Other than that, I’m not sure. But it had nothing to do with that.

I like to write and perform, and stand-up allows you to control your own act. This was probably a major factor.

Where do you keep your jokes and did you ever lose any?

I have a white (marker) board in my room, which I highly recommend for other comics out there. It allows you to easily add and erase jokes, and can also function as a cue card for when you practice.

The only joke that I can remember losing is a good one that I once thought of while falling asleep. I hoped that I’d remember it upon awaking, but I didn’t. Yes, I can’t remember the only joke that I can remember losing. I guess that kind of makes sense, though.

What is the worst job you ever had and did it have any effect on your comedy?

Comedy. The worst job I’ve ever had is comedy, and yes, it has had an effect on my comedy.
