Harris Bloom

Today I am interviewing Harris Bloom, a comedian born in Queens, NY who has been doing comedy for three and a half years. To find out more about Harris, please visit his website.

Why did you start doing stand-up comedy?

Mainly the challenge - I work as a a regulatory accountant, which is somehow even more boring than it sounds, during the day and needed some kind of outlet. Otherwise, I may've shot myself in the head...but not before taking some others with me.

How do you write jokes and where do you come up with ideas?

I'm not one of those people who can set aside a few hours to sit down and write. It has to be more organic than that...basically, something either has to happen that I find funny or sometimes, things just pop into my head. Half the time, I wish they didn't.

How do you feel about bringers?

The comics? No comment...the shows? I think they definitely serve a purpose. Comics bitch about them but no one's forcing you to do 'em. There are plenty of other ways of getting stage time. When it comes to comedy club bringer producers, I think a good rule of thumb is - TRUST NO ONE. Personally, I only do bringers now if I need a good ten minute tape.
