Esteban Romero

Today I am interviewing Esteban Romero, a comedian born in the City of Colon, Panama who has been doing comedy for five years. To find out more about Esteban, please visit his website.

Why did you start doing stand-up comedy?

I started doing stand-up...Wait my cousin Javier Reid started me doing comedy. It was his wedding day I ended up being the videographer (it wasn't planned). But it ended up being the funniest thing they ever saw because I interviewed the guest and had a lot of fun (being that I was high really helped). The week after he signs me up to my 1st of many shows to showcase my God-given talent to the world (aka my 1st bringer show). It was "GREAT", I destroyed; and I have been looking for that 'innocent' good feeling since then...:--( aawwww!

Do you generally stick to your set or improvise and why?

Do I stick to my set? No... I'm currently trying to change my style from the International immigrant black latino to a man who has been in America for over 20 years with real american issues, fatherhood, unemployment, family, friends, baby mommas, etc.. So I find myself changing my opener (1st joke) on the regular basis. Having done improv and being the most sensitive 6' 2" blackman, I find myself in the moment a lot (which if done right could lead to the best sets ever). So, no, I do not have a steady set and that was my excuse for it. Excuses are the backbone to my comedy career by the way.

Do you plan on becoming very famous and how?

Yes, I do plan on being famous; I'm gonna do comedy and if that doesn't work, "I'm gonna kill the president"...of Panama (of course)! CIA stay away...
