J-L Cauvin

Today I am interviewing J-L Cauvin, a comedian from Bronx, NY who has been doing comedy for six years. To find out more about J-L, please visit his website.

Why did you start doing stand-up comedy?

I started doing comedy because I was bored and a little depressed in law school. I began doing it and enjoyed it and began to just feel better about life once I immersed myself in writing and performing. Comedy to me is just below family and religion in importance to me. The way people talk about Jesus or religion as "saving them" is close to the way I feel about comedy.

What is the one thing you want people to know about you?

The one thing I want people to know about me is my website (so they can read what I write, come see me perform and buy my CDs) - www.jlcauvin.com

Do you have any advice for beginner comedians?

My advice for beginner comedians would be as follows: do comedy first and foremost because you love it, because if you don't the disappointment will overwhelm you. And if after 4 or 5 years you still suck at comedy, maybe you should just be a fan.
