Today I am interviewing Dat Phan, a comedian originally from Saigon, South Vietnam who has been doing comedy for over six years. To find out more about Dat, please visit his website.Why did you start doing stand-up comedy?
I took a Speech class in college and was naturally making people laugh. I found out that I might have a gift.
How did you become a paid comedian?
I stayed clean. Promoted my ass off and kept working on my comedy. Self Marketing: Putting butts in seats gets you work.
Do you have any advice for beginner comedians?
Stay honest, stay professional, "show BUSINESS", keep working hard, work smart, network, and have fun.

Dat Phan failed to mention his notecard technique that was featured on the first episode of Last Comic Standing, which introduced me to organization when it comes to jokes. As an early comic I was also amazed that he was doing his routine to an empty swimming pool. "How can you do it without getting laughs or stares?" He certainly has worked hard.
