Myspace and Google
Here's something you probably didn't know about. If you keep a blog on MySpace, Google doesn't index it. To see if I'm right, copy any sentence from your MySpace blog into Google and hit Search. If your results differ from mine, do let me know and I will write an update. In the meantime, I will assume when it comes to Google, your blog doesn't exist. Maybe you don't care that your blog isn't on Google, and maybe someday either Google or MySpace will fix this problem, but for now you're missing out on a very large audience. And as a blogger, to me that seems counterproductive. What bothers me is that when you start a blog on MySpace, you are never told about this problem. And by the time you find out, it is too late. And this is not a rant against MySpace, or Google, but against the way things usually are when you're dealing with two companies and how each company will probably say it is the other one's fault.

Strange, but it worked for me with some phrases, but not others.

Josh,
I guess I am partially right.
Dan,
I'd like to blame Bush.

If I google my name, my MySpace blog is on the first page along with my main blog.
I've seen other blogs listed on Google as well. Maybe not with a page 1 rank but if you take the time to go deep in the searches, you'll find MySpace blogs.
I believe that it has more to do with content and consistency on a variety of topics that garner you a better Google ranking.
I've never experimented with search engine optimization, but have grown to learn that a good blog will naturally rise in ranking over time, and that's usually the best way.

Hi David,
First, I went ahead and googled "David Robison." I didn't find your Myspace blog. But my post is about something different. Even if your myspace blog was on Google, the stuff you write about isn't. I propose that you google many different sentences right from your blog and see if Google returns your blog as the source of these sentences.

Hey Slava,
My mistake, if you google Dave (not David) Robison, you'll find my MySpace page.
MOst of my MySpace blog entries are reprints of my other blogs, so they get googled higher, but I did as you suggested and googled several sentences. It took a while to find them but they are "google-able" (damn, does that even qualify as a word?)
On most of the searches I had to omit the most relevant sites to the search and click on the ones Google omitted.
No matter, I think I still understand what you are saying...Your Myspace page shouldn't really be your primary site if you want people to find you on the internet. Have a blog hosted somewhere else or a separate website. Good advice.
