Why bother?

I've been thinking about my best jokes and how I can purposely create more of them and I've realized that I can't. I've found that my best jokes happened randomly, purely by accident, without me making any kind of effort at all. Either I overheard something or I was thinking or talking about something and all of a sudden my brain turned that something into a great joke. Which begs the question, why write something every day if my best jokes have never come out of this daily excercise? Because I believe creating something mediocre every day is related to creating something superb randomly. I can't explain the connection, but I know that mediocre jokes now will lead to superb jokes later. Maybe our brain is like an athlete who trains every day, and then one day suddenly does something remarkable by accident. But before you can do something remarlable, you need the training.
